Digital Scammer Snared: Hyderabad Police Arrest Key Suspect

In a significant breakthrough, the Hyderabad Cyber Crime police have successfully captured a key player in a far-reaching digital fraud case. Mohammed Zubair Ahmed, aged 31, was apprehended upon his return from Dubai at the RGI Airport.

Unraveling the FedEx Fraud

According to police sources, Zubair Ahmed was a central figure in a complex FedEx fraud scheme. This scam involved fooling victims into believing they faced legal trouble as a package linked to their Aadhaar was allegedly seized, supposedly containing contraband like drugs.

Arrest at the Airport

Zubair’s arrest was linked to his role in orchestrating fraudulent transactions through multiple bank accounts. Operating from Dubai, he, with the help of his partners, managed these fraudulent operations while assuming identities of legal and courier officials.

The Modus Operandi

This scam came to light when a complaint was lodged by a victim who was tricked into paying Rs 55 lakh. The scammers convincingly posed as FedEx executives and coerced the victim to pay for a non-existent “digital arrest” clearance. The deception included connecting the victim to impersonated officials for further extortion.

A Web of Deception

Further investigations have revealed the broad scope of Zubair’s operations, with at least 52 accounts under his and his associate Sadiq’s control. They managed large sums through these accounts, implicating their extensive network across several Indian states.

National Impact

Shockingly, according to NCRP data, a total of 124 related cases have surfaced nationwide, with 23 originating from Telangana alone, reflecting the widespread impact of this fraud.
