Heartwarming Tribute: Long Beach’s Ronald McDonald House Celebrates Its Heroes

In a serene corner of Long Beach, a gathering took place that highlighted the sheer power of community spirit. At the heart of this evening was the annual Community Partner and Volunteer Appreciation Event, orchestrated by the Ronald McDonald House. Held on Aug. 28 at the inviting San Pedro Fish Market, the event saw about 50 volunteers, staff, and community partners come together in a shared mission of compassion.

The Starfish Tale: A Symbol of Impact

The attendees were transported by the tale of the starfish, a simple yet profoundly evocative story that epitomizes the essence of volunteerism. This story spoke to the volunteers’ hearts, reminding them of the profound difference each person can make — one act of kindness at a time.

Remembering Carol Flores: A Legacy of Light

A poignant moment unfolded with the unveiling of the Carol Flores Award. Named in tribute to a cherished volunteer whose warmth once illuminated the Ronald McDonald House, this award is a beacon of inspiration, shining brightly for volunteers who embody her spirit. According to Long Beach Press-Telegram, it marks the continuation of her legacy, recognizing outstanding commitment and love for the community.

Stories of Service and Dedication

From the dedicated Volunteer Manager, Kevin Bebe, to the adored Pet Prescription Team that fills the house with joy and companionship, every volunteer at the event was recognized for their extraordinary efforts. Last year, their collective 10,440 hours translated into 277 “Meals of Love,” fortifying 524 families, including 16 international ones — each finding a home away from home during life’s toughest challenges.

A Celebration of Compassion and Community

As the evening settled, keepsakes inspired by the starfish tale were given as tokens of gratitude — reminders of the difference one dedicated soul can make. Amidst laughter and shared stories, a new chapter began, one where the community vowed to continue this journey together, advocating joy, comfort, and love for those in need.

With inspiration brimming and connections rekindled, Long Beach proudly saluted its local heroes, knowing that together, they can shine a light on the darkest days and guide many more starfish back home.

Let’s hope the stories and tales from this heartwarming evening continue to inspire acts of kindness, ever strengthening the bonds within our community.
