In a remarkable leap toward digital governance, Andhra Pradesh is set to revolutionize how residents access vital services. Starting May 15, residents can now apply for various ration card-related services through WhatsApp. According to Deccan Chronicle, Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar emphasized the convenience this initiative would bring to over 1.46 crore ration cardholders in the state.

New Era in Digital Governance

Gone are the days of bureaucratic paper trails. Imagine simply sending a “Hello” to 95523 00009 via WhatsApp to begin the process. It’s a significant stride towards more accessible and efficient public services.

All-Inclusive Services at Your Fingertips

The government offers six essential services, ensuring comprehensive support: issuance of new rice cards, division of cards, changes of address, addition or removal of members, and surrender of cards. These services are designed to cater to everyone’s needs, from the elderly to young families.

Smart Cards for a Smarter Future

In line with modernization, the state will introduce smart cards in June. These cards, free of cost, will streamline the storage and access of family details. For those who have completed their KYC, these cards pave the way for efficiently managing government entitlements. Note that children under five and seniors over eighty are exempt from eKYC.

Inclusivity at Its Core

Inclusivity is the cornerstone of this new system. Unmarried individuals over 50, those who have separated from spouses, and residents of orphanages can now register for single-person ration cards. Notably, people who have undergone gender reassignment and senior artists receiving pension in rural areas will benefit from special AAY cards.

Extending Support to Remote Areas

For communities residing in less accessible terrains, such as the Chenchus and Yanads, the government will distribute special AAY cards. These cards guarantee 35kg of rice, ensuring no one is left behind in this digitally-advanced era.

This innovative approach highlights the transformative power of digital tools in public service delivery. By taking bold steps towards modernization, Andhra Pradesh sets a new benchmark in how a regional government can brighten the lives of its citizens with technology.
